Abstract Etching by Bengt Orup
21″ x 15 1/2″
In this monochrome etching by Bengt Orup there is a playful tension between densities and depths of black, and the geometries within which he frames those textures. Like much of his work, one senses the artist capturing a moment of velocity, and representing it with a clear-eyed stillness.
Orup (1916-1996), was one of the leading figures in post-war modernism in Sweden. He trained in both Sweden and Paris, and returned to his native country to work and teach. He is also well-known for the glass he made. His work is widely collected: there are examples in the permanent collections of the Moderna museet, the MOMA, the Victoria and Albert Museum and many more.
Signed and numbered 15/15, in a simple wood frame measuring 24″ x 18″.
