Welded Steel
16″ x 36″ diameter
This unique light sculpture, which Rebecca Welz calls “Shadow Play,” is the contemporary sculptor’s first chandelier. Suspended from steel chains which she also fabricated by hand, it is a mobile sculpture with an organic presence, and casts increasingly dramatic shadows as the ambient light fades.
Welz is a New York City-based artist whose interests range widely through the fields of sculpture and design. She has studied biomimicry in Belize, guided furniture-design students in Guyana, and founded the Association of Women Industrial Designers. Welz teaches at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Her work is included in private and public collections around the world.
