Cordelia Lawton and Patrick Mull met in 1994 at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where they quickly discovered a shared obsession with art and design. Soon after, they began to experiment with the narrative possibilities of interior design, first in their own homes, then in the homes of others.
Lawton Mull has a design workshop and gallery in Long Island City, and a display space on the Gallery floor of 200 Lex in Manhattan, where, alongside their own designs, they show an eclectic collection of works by European masters, with a focus on the Nordic countries. They also exhibit the work of a small selection of living artists.
Recently, the gallery workshop has begun selling high-quality sustainably-sourced surface materials for the built environment.
