Cordelia Lawton and Patrick Mull met in 1994 at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where we discovered a shared obsession with art and design. Over the years, we have built a loyal stable of private clients for whom we source objects and consult on placement and interior decor. We opened our doors to the public as dealers in 2010.
Lawton Mull has a by-appointment design studio in Long Island City where we host events that range from art exhibits to chamber music concerts, and design and fabricate our own line of furniture. And our 200 Lex location has earned a reputation as a source of great design and inspiring assemblage for some of New York’s most elite interior designers and stylists. In recent years, we’ve brought our fervor and talent for staging to luxury real estate, and have won praise for our scrupulous attention to detail.
We never make or choose something that we ourselves would not live with, and we are exquisitely sensitive not only to standards of comfort, durability and usefulness but also to the suitable placement of objects based on their proportions and design. We keep our firm small in order to control quality, and also because we enjoy every aspect of the work. In some sense, we are still writers. We look for narrative possibilities and find the right combination of objects that will tell that story. In the end, each environment we build is an attempt to capture an elusive ideal of Home.
