Swedish Folk Blue Painted Timber Box
Sweden
19th Century
Pine
24 1/4″ wide x 17″ deep x 20 1/4″ high
A rich history of use is evident in the palimpsest of green and robins-egg blue paints that this pine timber box has worn over the years. An excellent example of Swedish vernacular furniture, it was built by hand, probably in the 19th century, with dove-tail joinery and a hinged lid, perfect for storing firewood, blankets, or unread issues of the New Yorker.
