Bengt Ruda (1918-1999) was a Swedish architect and furniture designer. He is known for his designs for Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) and, later, IKEA, where he became the first formally-trained designer to be employed by the company. This pair of lounge chairs is part of his ‘Trivia’ series, produced by Nordiska Kompaniet in the 1950s. The series is characterized by clean lines, from the subtle curve of the seat and backrest to the sharp angle of the legs. Originally designed to be self-assembled, the brass hardware on the legs and arms is both practical and sophisticated. Marked with plaque Nordiska Kompaniet AB, Stockholm.
