Hans Agne Jakobsson (1919-2009) was a Swedish interior and furniture designer known primarily for his lighting designs, which played with a diverse range of materials and forms. He began his career as a carpenter before working as an industrial designer at General Motors. He then became the assistant to designers Carl Malmsten and Werner West. In 1951, he established his own company ‘Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB’ in Markaryd, Sweden.
Among his best-known designs is this pendant light made of thin ribbons of pine delicately nailed to a hive-shaped frame. When illuminated, it creates a warm, diffused light. During the day, it offers a pleasing sculptural value to a space.
