Floating World: Lawton Mull at the NYDC

We’re thrilled to be occupying space 1056 in the 1stdibs showroom of the New York Design Center. Here are a few peeks at our inaugural installation. Drop by our floating world. There’s bound to be something new every time you visit.

Through the gilt iron Baguès screen, a breathtaking view of Nagasaki Bay.

Have a seat. The quince are in flower.

We hope each mise-en-scène we create provides space for reflection.

Ever-changing tablescapes: today, specimen red coral, a Kashmiri hatbox, an Italian Art Deco coffee service and a carved wood figure who seems to be dreaming on the pheasant feather sea of our Daedalus table.

Across the room, by the window, a favorite daybed, wearing a custom-made mattress covered in Belgian linen. We’ve started making cushions, too. These are covered with cotton velvet and remnants of vintage Jack Lenore Larsen upholstery.

Be sure to look in every corner. Surprises await. On the windowsill, a reindeer in a mossy forest.

We give the term “still life” an imperative connotation quite apart from its French translation, nature morte. We believe that beauty, especially when it has stood the test of time, sustains us—even, at times, exalts us—and that the hours spent in its pursuit and enjoyment are never wasted.
