American Queen Anne Tilt Top Candlestand

Late 18th/early 19th century
Mahogany
24″ diameter x 29 1/8″ high
A fine example of a traditional candlestand. The top is carved from a single plank of mahogany, the stepped rim integral with the top and quite finely formed. A single radial crack has an old repair with butterfly joints. The patina of the surface is wonderful. Danish and Swedish furniture makers of the early-mid 20th century looked with admiration to earlier work from England and America, inspired by the quality of craftsmanship and the timelessness of the designs. We find that carefully chosen antique pieces can be an extremely pleasing counterpoint in an interior informed by a more modern aesthetic.
