Antique French Provincial Chair with Wheels
France
Late 18th/early 19th century
Painted wood, rush, metal hardware
36″ high x 25 1/2″ wide x 21″ deep
(seat 18″ high, 18″ wide x 18″ deep)
This wonderfully quirky antique clearly began in the French provinces as a conventional armchair and seems to have been adapted not long thereafter, judging by the execution and surface quality of the iron hardware, possibly as an early office chair.
The carved and painted wood frame is attached to a wooden base and metal wheels with iron brackets. The rush seat is in excellent condition. Asseyez-vous.
