Antique Uzbek Suzani
Late 19th/early 20th century
Uzbekistan
Embroidered silk
90″ x 91″ x 1″
Suzanis were traditionally made by Central Asian brides as part of their dowry, and presented to the groom on their wedding day. This is a wonderfully graphic example, with sixteen large floral medallions alternating between black and pale blue, surrounded by a narrow floral border.
Stretched and mounted.
