Coffee service by Jean Filhos for Sèvres

Coffee service by Jean Filhos for Sèvres

France
1975
Porcelain, silver

Jean Filhos was trained as an architect and sculptor, but in the 1960s abandoned the first profession to dedicate himself exclusively to the second. He designed a number of works of usable sculpture for manufacturers such as Christofle and Sèvres.

This coffee service is one such work. It was created for the Musée National du Ceramique in Sèvres. The simple, cool white porcelain forms seem to be in the midst of metamorphosis. They are framed by sterling silver handles and knobs sculpted in an organic baroque style. In excellent original condition.
