Sweden
1970s
Brass and glass
11 1/2″ high x 12 3/4″ diameter (total height 15″)
Swedish lighting designer Anders Pehrson studied engineering in Göteborg before becoming design manager at Philips, where he worked from 1952 to 1963. He then took over as the director and new owner of Ateljé Lyktan, where he led the company to international success. His distinctive style is characterized by simple and refined forms, with inspiration from early Modernist forms.
This particular fixture was produced by Anders Pehrson for Ateljé Lyktan in the 1970s. The subtle bell shape is distinctive of Pehrson’s designs; however, in this case his use of materials makes the “Crystal” unique. The perforated brass shade diffuses light outwards, creating a soft, mystical effect.
