Dutch Rococo Cabinet

Dutch Rococo Cabinet

Netherlands
Circa 1740
Walnut, Ash and other woods
88″ high x 42″ wide x 24″ deep

We have a weakness for Rococo. The sinuous curves of a cabinet such as this Dutch example do much to enliven a modern space, especially the unadorned boxes so many of us live in nowadays. The workmanship is wonderful: the figured walnut veneer glows, and the ash inlay is applied with restraint. The interior of the upper portion is covered in a blue silk moiré, and the desk top has a peacock blue felt blotter. What will you store in the many small drawers and cubbies, in the secret compartment, inside the large serpentine drawers?
