Hand-Carved Early 19th century Swedish Trestle Table
SWEDEN
1809
Pine
63 1/2″ wide x 33″ deep x 30″ high
This hand-carved pine trestle table is a wonderful example of Swedish folk furniture from the Gustavian era. Most remarkably, it includes a rack built to hold the wooden spoons of each family member, and the five spoons themselves. We have never seen a farm table with this extraordinary accessory. The whole table has a wabi-sabi asymmetry and the patina of loving use, and is dated in the hand of its maker: 26 October 1809.
