Danish designer Just Andersen (1884-1943) is famous for having invented Disko Metal, an alloy of lead, tin, and antimony, named after the Disko Bay of Greenland, where he grew up. He used it to produce vessels, lamps and other designs. This large, footed serving bowl, however, is bronze. Incised around the border with a Neoclassical pattern and beautifully patinated.

At the pinnacle of his success, Just Andersen had his own show rooms in Berlin, London, New York and Los Angeles. His immediately recognizable designs remain highly collectible.
