Fjetterström designed the “Gothic Portal” carpet in 1934, after a trip to Knossos where she saw ancient potsherds. It was a design appreciated by King Gustaf VI Adolf, who owned one himself and also gave one to Queen Elizabeth II on her 1956 visit to Stockholm. The Swedish royal family have been among the most avid collectors of her work, which continues to be produced by the atelier she founded in 1919.
