This bentwood pine basket, with its rattan stitching and iron fastenings, has a naive but mindful quality similar to Shaker designs. The orange and cobalt blue pigments have faded with decades of use, resulting in a beautifully timeworn surface. Traditionally used for transporting and serving flatbread, this basket is perfect for storing a lap blanket or kindling, or carrying your favorite porcelain to a picnic.
Signed ‘EODS’ and dated 1857.
