This chair, archived by the Danish Design Museum as model No. 1, is a rare, early design from Fritz Hansen. It has a curvilinear, bentwood frame attached to unusual runners, and is upholstered in shearling.

Fritz Hansen opened the doors of his Copenhagen workshop in 1885. With the help of his son Christian, the company soon established its reputation for outstanding quality and forward-looking design. They went on to collaborate with some of the masters of the Danish modern era, from Kaare Klint to Arne Jacobsen to Verner Panton.
