Teak Folding Bar Cart by JENS HARALD QUISTGAARD
Designed for Richard Nissen, Denmark
1960s
Teak
31 1/2″ wide, 20″ deep, 26 3/4″ high
A rare design from Jens Harald Quistgaard, produced by Richard Nissen in the 1960s. Constructed of solid teak, with wheels inset with teak hubs. Like Quistgaard’s household items, the bar cart is smartly functional –when you are finished serving drinks for the night, it can be collapsed and stored away.
Quistgaard (1919-2008) is considered a pioneer of Scandinavian Modern Design. He started his career at his father’s sculpture studio, later becoming an apprentice to Georg Jensen, and finally the chief designer for Dansk. He designed a multitude of household items from pepper mills to flatware. A selection of these designs are in museum collections in Europe and the United States, including The Design Museum in Copenhagen and the MoMA in New York.
