Upholstered Arm Chair by Otto Schulz (attr.)
Sweden
1940s
Oak, upholstery
28″ wide, 28 1/2″ deep, 31″ high (seat height 15″)
Otto Schulz was an architect and designer born in Germany, who moved to Sweden and founded in Gothenburg what quickly became one of Sweden’s most prestigious interior design shops–-Boet, which operated from 1920-1950. During that time, he produced a beautiful catalog of designs, including a lounge chair with a floating back and low seat, an overall sense of balance and softened geometry.
The exposed, carved oak frame, the gently embracing curves, the spaciousness created by the separated back and seat, and the quality of craftsmanship of this chair all point to Schulz.
This one has been fully restored and recovered in a plush teddy mohair and leather buttons.
